What exactly is this juicing trend I hear about??

Juicing has gained in popularity, partly due to one documentary titled “Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead”.  Click the link if you want to find out more on this video.  Some have used juicing it as a way to lose weight, others to improve their intake of fruits and vitamins. Regardless of your intent, the evidence seems strong in favor of juicing.  As with most appliances today, there is a huge assortment of options, types, and price points.  You could spend a whole day researching and reading. Or, you can come here and with a few minutes of reading, let us tell you THE BEST.  And also tell you THE BEST place to shop for a good price.

We won’t bore you with all of the details, just to the point.  There are 2 main types of juicers: centrifugal and Masticating.  Centrifugal has been around a long time and basically involves spinning the food at high speeds to get the juice out of it.  Masticating takes the food and spins it slowly to really squeeze the juice.

Key differences:

1) Centrifugal requires on a small amount of prep work.  You basically can take most foods as they are and just put them in.  Masticating requires you to cut the food into smaller pieces.  And it also takes longer to juice then a centrifugal.

2) Masticating is much better at leafy food, such as spinach, kale, etc.  You will get a lot more juice from these types of foods then if you used a centrifugal machine.

3) While the jury is still out, critics say that centrifugal juice isn’t as good as masticating since the high speeds can tend to “damage” the juice and also introduces air bubbles into it.  This is always why the juice from a centrifugal settles after a few minutes, and needs to be consumed soon after making it. Masticating juicers advertise that some of their juices are good for 72 hours.

In Summary:

If you don’t want to spend a lot of prep time and want something quick and easy where you plan to

drink the juice right away, and also if price is a big factor, go with a centrifugal juicers.

If you plan to use a lot of leafy vegetables and don’t mind the extra prep time or the higher cost, go with a masticating juicer.

Some people have both as each has it benefits depending on what you plan when using it.

Once you have decided on the type you then need to pick from the large assortment of product choices. We will tell you the BEST that we have found for both types.  When we say THE BEST, these take into account performance results, customer reviews, how sturdy it is, cost and our own tests of the product.  There are better units costing a lot more, and good units costing less.  We aim for the middle, a mix of value, quality and performance.

Centrifugal-There are many choices but from all of our research, and our own testing of the product, we feel that THE BEST unit to purchase if the Breville BJE510XL.  This unit has the best mix of features, quality and performance.  For about $40 less another good choice is the unit below this, the Breville JE98XL.  For the extra $40 you get more speed settings (very useful), a digital display for the speed, and also more metal parts as opposed to plastic.  Aside from all of the great reviews online, our test of both these units shows them to be great performers with nice value.  There are times where these machines are all offered on good sale prices.  Amazon tends to have the best price but you can also wait for a great deal.  Keep an eye on our  deals section to find these.

Masticating-The Omega 8006(Chrome)/8004(White) is by far the BEST machine you can purchase for both its performance and Price.  The white 8004 tends to be priced lower but is the same machine just in a white finish.  We have tested this unit and agree with all of the positive reviews that are posted on the internet about it.  Cleanup is fairly easy as compared to other Masticating Juicers.  While this is a more expensive unit, if you wait for a good sale you can get a much better price on it, sometimes in the $180-$200 range.  Aside from the performance, what amazed us most was some of the complex parts of this machine and the engineering that must gone into producing it.

Regardless of which machine you pick, you have made a good choice! We also highlighting juicing as a great way to help lose weight in our weight loss section.
